- Flashcard & Learning Content: Custom words, flashcards, notes, study progress, review intervals, and spaced repetition system (SRS) statistics created or imported by you (including imported CSV files).
B. Automatically Collected Information
- Local App Storage: Your study preferences, spaced repetition metrics, and app settings are stored locally on your device using Android Room Database and Android Security Crypto (Encrypted Preferences).
- Technical & Device Information: Basic system diagnostic info (e.g., Android OS version, app version) required for app performance, bug reporting, and study reminder scheduling.
C. Artificial Intelligence & Text Prompts
- AI Queries (Google Gemini): When you use AI-assisted features (such as generating word definitions, example sentences, or grammar explanations), the text prompts or query terms you submit are transmitted to Google Gemini API for processing.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Provide Core App Functionality: To calculate spaced repetition study intervals, manage flashcard decks, and track learning progress.
- Account Management: To authenticate your login status, maintain your user profile, and secure your data.
- AI Feature Generation: To generate translations, definitions, and context sentences using Google AI services.
- Study Reminders: To send local push notifications and study alerts based on your scheduled review intervals.
- Data Import/Export: To allow you to import or export your flashcards via CSV files.

4. App Permissions Required
KamalEnglish requests the following Android system permissions to deliver key features:
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS: To send study reminders and review alerts.
- SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM & RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: To ensure review reminders are accurately scheduled even after your device restarts.
- INTERNET: To connect with Firebase Authentication and Google Gemini AI services.
5. Data Security
We implement standard security measures to protect your information:
- Data transmitted between the App and online services (Firebase and Google Gemini) is encrypted in transit using HTTPS / SSL / TLS.
- Local application settings and authentication tokens are secured on your device using Android’s Security Crypto framework.
6. Data Retention and Account Deletion
- Local Flashcards & Study Data: Stored on your device and can be erased at any time by clearing the App’s data in system settings or uninstalling the App.
- Account Deletion: You have the right to request deletion of your account and associated personal data. Upon request, we will permanently delete your user account and online data within 30 days.
7. Children’s Privacy
KamalEnglish is not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
